Life Lately: Morning Walks, Good Books + Travel Plans

Boston Harbor filled with boats and sailboats on a sunny summer day, with waterfront buildings in the background.

A little look at what August 2026 has looked like for me, featuring morning walks, good books, current favorites, and a few upcoming travel plans.

Lately, I’ve Been Loving

My walks.

I do my best to get around 12,000 steps a day during the summer. On my remote days, that usually means incline walks at the gym.

On my in-office days, it looks more like a 30-minute walk before an 80-minute commute to the office, plus shorter walks throughout the day.

I’ll squeeze them in between meetings or use them to break up larger projects.

I know my office days involve more meetings and sitting, so getting a walk in before the workday starts has been such a positive change for me.

Walking in the morning makes me feel energized, productive, and calm. It also makes the long commute feel slightly more manageable.

Lately, I’ve Been Reading

When You Loved Me by Beatriz Williams. I’m proably about a quarter of the way in and I’m still a little unsure of this one. I usually LOVE Beatriz’s books, but the verdict is out. I’m hoping it picks up soon!

One of my favorite summer activities is sitting in an Adirondack chair on our side deck and reading after work, and this has been the perfect book for it.

Lately, I’ve Been Watching

The Five-Star Weekend and The Testaments. Two completely different shows, and both equally good!

We were very late to the party with The Handmaid’s Tale, so we’re pretty pumped to be watching this new series in real time.

Does anyone else start watching shows years after they originally aired? We also started and finished Mad Men this year, so apparently that’s our thing now.

Lately, I’ve Been Celebrating

Chris’s birthday!! We went to Boston for the day with his mom and did lots of exploring and eating. We even stopped by the F1 Arcade and raced against one another for a few games.

Lately, I’ve Been Thinking About

My early morning walk right after sunrise on our last day in Vancouver.

I can’t get these views, or these photos, out of my mind.

It was such a peaceful way to spend our final morning in the city and one of those small travel moments I know I’ll remember for a long time.

Lately, I’ve Been Looking Forward To

Our trip to Montréal this September for the 2026 UCI Road World Championships

We’re heading there for four days, and I’m excited to explore a new city, watch some incredible cycling, and, obviously, eat plenty of poutine!
