Weekend Recap: My First Trail Run in Years, Landscaping + WooSox

This weekend was a little bit of everything: my first trail run in years, a backyard project we’ve been talking about forever, and a Sunday afternoon at a WooSox game with my parents.

Basically, a very New England summer weekend.

Saturday

Went for my first run in years! Between a few different injuries, including a bad right knee, I’ve prioritized walking and my Peloton for cardio. Ever since coming home from Vancouver, I’ve just wanted to go trail running.

We woke up early on Saturday. Chris went for a hike to train for a race, and I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do. I could go to the gym, or, I thought, what about heading down to a nearby park for a trail run?

It was early enough that I knew it wouldn’t be busy, but late enough that I knew it was safe. So off I went.

We’ve walked this trail before, so I knew it would be a good re-entry into running. Even better, it’s a one-mile loop.

I ran one lap pain-free. And I know that might not sound like much, but after the knee issues I’ve dealt with over the past few years, it made me so happy.

Once I got home, I did about a 45-minute strength workout before we spent 5 to 6 hours building a fence.

We have a stretch of grass at the front of our lawn that just burns every.single.summer. We’ve been brainstorming what we can do here, and after a bit of inspiration, we decided to add an accent fence surrounded by flowers, greenery, and rocks.

We completed the fence portion on Saturday and are hoping to work on the landscaping portion next. More to come when we finish the project!

Sunday

My parents came down on Sunday to join us for a WooSox baseball game followed by ice cream.

We stayed for about half of the game, but between the sun and the WooSox getting demolished, we decided to head out early and grab some ice cream to cool down.

And that was our weekend! A little running, a lot of yard work, baseball, and ice cream. We still have some work to do on the landscaping around the new fence, so I’ll share more once everything is finished.

For now, I’m just very excited that my first run in years went better than I expected. Maybe there will be another one soon!
